A unique partnership with the Phoenix Club has resulted in the establishment of two mentoring matches with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
The Phoenix Club provides a forum for people from government, police and emergency services, community organsations and other vocations to exchange information and knowledge. The Phoenix Club fosters support to its members and directs financial support to selected causes.
In this case, Big Brothers Big Sisters is the beneficiary with one female and one male match being funded through the efforts of the Phoenix Club.
"We are thrilled to be associated with the Phoenix Club", says Big Brothers Big Sisters' Executive Officer, Paul Mathewson.
The partnership allows Big Brothers Big Sisters to join with a group of community-minded people to make a difference to young people through one-to-one mentoring.
"Many of the Phoenix Club membership have had first-hand experience of dealing with young people who have limited adult support in their lives", says Phoenix Club President John Piazza. "It seems natural that we would support an organisation like Big Brothers Big Sisters .
The two mentoring matches funded by the Phoenix Club commenced in February 2008 and have been progressing well. Both matches are located in the Melbourne's Northern Metropolitan region and both have successfully completed their three month reviews.
