People in Melbourne's Western communities are being challenged to make 'the west the best' for young people by becoming a mentor at Big Brothers Big Sisters.
“There is a serious demand for mentors in Melbourne's West as every week more and more young people in need are referred to our program, Waiting times for young people in the west, especially the outer west are currently very long” says BBBS Coordinator, Marijke Freeman-Moir.
Mentoring is not only a rewarding experience for the young people involved but also seen by many of our Big Brothers and Big Sisters as one of the most worthwhile experiences of their lifes. The commitment of the role is for a minimum of 12 months, 3-4 times a month.
Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Melbourne is the oldest youth mentoring organisation in Victoria and has been operating for 27 years. BBBS currently support around 250 mentoring relationships across the Melbourne metropolitan area.
All potential volunteers are carefully screened and trained before they spend any one-to-one time with a young person. BBBS needs volunteers who are stable, commited and reliable. People who have a genuine desire to befriend and spend time with a young person.
