The Young Adults Mentoring Program targets young people who need additional support as they embark on further education and employment opportunities.
Mentors provide one-to-one support to young people through spending time with them on a regular basis. The type of support that a mentor provides to a young person may include friendship, social support, a chance to learn new skills or try new activities, assistance with study or exploring career options. Activities can be as simple as having a coffee and a chat or can be task orientated, such as writing a resume.
Young People
The young people are aged between 15-25 and are in need of additional adult support, role modelling or friendship.
Young people are mainly referred to the program by Kids Under Cover(KUC). KUC support these young people with housing and provides them with a scholarship so that they can continue their study or return to study.
Young people are also referred through the Rotary Next Step partnership and, at times, general referrals may be recieved for young people.
Mentors
Young people are matched to mentors who live in similar area and who have similar skills, interests or career goals. Volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and have a wide range of interests.
At times young people may request a volunteer who works in the area they are hoping to get a career in.
