Big Brothers Big Sisters is delivering a new mentoring initiative to young people called the Young Achievers Program. The program targets young people who have limited adult support, who are studying Year 10-12 and who are excelling academically, in sport or the arts. The program will match these young people with a mentor spending one-to-one time with each other once per fortnight for a minimum of 12 months. In addition to mentoring, young people will also be participating in workshops on a monthly basis.

MENTORS
We are now seeking expressions of interest from people wishing to be mentors.
Mentors who work in the following fields are encouraged to contact the Coordinator. In order to best meet the needs of the young people we are currently only able to accept new volunteer applicants who fit one of the below categories.
We require:
Lawyers
Doctors
Engineers
Architects
Musicians
and those employed in the arts and sports.
As more young person applications come in, we will update the above list as we will have a more specific idea of the location and exact nature of the occupations we are in need of. Currently, we would like volunteers from these occupations to apply no matter which suburb you live in.
A celebratory event for the inaugral year of the Young Achievers Program was held on 13th November, 2009. Click here to see the 2009 Year Book.
If you or people in your network are interested in knowing more about this mentoring opportunity, please contact Viv Ray, Mentoring Coordinator on 9342 6623.
